ORDINANCES OF HERO OF THE SOVIET UNION

Ordinance of the CEC of the Union of the SSR of July 29, 1936 y. (Code of Laws of the USSR 1936y.#42, art 357-b).

1. The title of a Hero of the Soviet Union is the highest degree of distinction. It is awarded for personal and collective services to the State involving the performance of a heroic deed.

2. The title of a Hero of the Soviet Union is awarded exclusively by ordinances of the Central Executive Committee of the Union of the SSR.

3. Heroes of the Soviet Union:

a) are awarded with the highest decoration of the Union of the SSR the "Order of Lenin".

b) are given the decoration certificate of the Central Executive Committee of the Union of the SSR.

4. The money reward for the "Order of Lenin", which is awarded simultaneously with awarding the title of a Hero of the Soviet Union, is paid at a double rate.

5. *** Heroes of the Soviet Union enjoy rights of privileges and advantages provided in art. 10-16 of the General regulations about orders of the Union of the SSR (Code of Laws of the USSR 1936 y. #2A,art220-b).

6. The deprivation of the title of a Hero of the Soviet Union can be executed only by an ordinance of the Central Executive Committee of the Union of the SSR.

Ordinance of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of August 1, 1939.

"About additional decorations for Heroes of the Soviet Union."

In addition and development of the working regulations about the title of a Hero of the Soviet Union and in order to show special distinction to people awarded with the title of a Hero of the Soviet Union and for new heroic deeds:

1. Establish the medal "Hero of the Soviet Union". It will be gold, shaped as a five-pointed star and have the superscription "Hero of the SU" on the obverse.

2. The medal "Hero of the Soviet Union" is given to Heroes of the Soviet Union. The first medal is given simultaneously with conferring with the title of a Hero of the Soviet Union and awarding with an Order of Lenin.

3. A Hero of the Soviet Union who accomplishes a new heroic deed equal to the original deed, which was marked by awarding him with the title of a Hero of the Soviet Union, is awarded a second medal " Hero of the Soviet Union". In commemoration of his heroic deed a bronze bust representing the awarded and with an inscription corresponding to him is set up on a pedestal in the home land of the hero.

4. A Hero of the Soviet Union awarded with two medals of "Hero of the Soviet Union" is awarded with a third medal of "Hero of the Soviet Union" for new heroic deeds. In commemoration of his heroic deeds a bronze bust representing the awarded and with an inscription corresponding to him is set up on a pedestal in the form of a column in Moscow near the Palace of Soviets.*

* The design of the star was changed (see above) and no medals of the old design were made and nobody was ever awarded with them.

"About changing of article #1 of the ordinance of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of August 1, 1939 "About additional decorations for Heroes of the Soviet Union"".

1. Change article #1 of the ordinance of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of August 1, 1939 "About additional decorations for Heroes of the Soviet Union" and to name the medal awarded to Heroes of the Soviet Union - the medal "The Gold Star".

2. Change the name of the medal in articles #2, #3 and #4 of the ordinance accordingly.

3. Approve the design of the medal "The Gold Star" and it's description.

4. Institute the order under which awarding with the second and the third medal "The Gold Star" is accompanied by delivering to the awarded a special certificate of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet.
