Dmitry Markov's interest in medal & coin collecting goes back to 1972. In 1985 he graduated from the History Department of the Kiev State University (Ukraine) and received his M.A. for the thesis - "Monetary Circulation in Ancient Russia (8th to 13th cent. A.D.)". His broad interests include Russian Orders, Medals & Military History, as well as Russian & Ancient Coinage. He published a number of articles in these fields.

In 1990 Dmitry Markov emigrated to the U.S.A. and in the next year founded his own firm, "DMITRY MARKOV Coins & Medals", which allowed him to become a leading dealer in Russian Coins & Medals. His business is based in New York City.

DMITRY MARKOV Coins & Medals had issued 35 fully illustrated reference catalogues, as well as many other fixed price lists, since inception. In 1997, Dmitry Markov contributed a much needed reference source to Soviet Orders and Medals collector's community - A Checklist of Soviet Orders and Medals.
